soft ask: which dream(s) have you not yet fully given light to?
turn your face to the sun and say, "more than anything, I desire ..." and see what happens
The world is a mirror. And of all mirrors, sisters are the most radiant. Like suns, they gift us what we have forgotten: revived, remembered, revered, and returned for our own reclamation. I am daily blessed with the warmth of 10,000 suns from being lovingly beheld by a handful of sisters. - excerpted from a work in progress
Yesterday while listening to a dear sisterfriend’s voice echo from my phone into the open space of morning, I remembered and reclaimed a forgotten dream. Across waters, time and space, her loving lucidity baptized me. (Click below to listen.)
I had forsaken this dream because I couldn’t see how to make it happen under conditions I desired. What was once a North Star became a flickering flame that threatened to be snuffed out. No amount of striving, struggle or strategizing carried me from desire to embodiment. This dream was a gift dream: the kind that must be received with a surrendered grace that acknowledges our own edges. Gift dreams must be called forth from their hiding places, and they call us forth from ours. We must come naked to receive the gift.
We must become soft and malleable in the hands of Life, surrendering what makes sense for what we sense. It is this embodied knowing that prepares us to receive—and become—that for which we have openheartedly asked.
Weeks ago, when I shared my million heart holdings with Nana Kwandaho Atta (the name of the soul whose voice you hear above and the same brilliant sister who gifted me the language of “welling”), I felt them fade as though the sharing had submitted them into some invisible refinery. The weight of them lifted off my shoulders, my heart, and my womb.
One of those heart holdings went something like this:
MORE THAN ANYTHING I desire a happy family, and dream of a home with walls filled with so much love and laughter that visitors giggle upon entry.
In that moment of sharing, I gave light to a deeply buried dream that I had abandoned for fear of not achieving it. Now I know this is not an achievement dream1. In Nana Kwandaho’s voice, I am reminded to simply commune with my ask, my truth. Her soft suggestion that, “Maybe THIS is the ancestral medicine … the alegría2 you speak of with such clarity” stopped my striving and unlocked my chest. And when it did, it was as if millions of butterflies came rushing home into my belly.
In her witnessing and reflections, she sunned my dream and I felt the seed grow. She gifted me the first sign that what I seek already IS even as I make my way to living in the reality of its ISness.
And as another dear sister, Mother Mother Binahkaye Joy says, “Simply BEING WITH the dreams [of our starseeds] is fruitful even if they never arrive earthside. The journey, alone, of preparing for them nourishes us in unforetold ways.”
Our dreams water us when we commune with them, when we water them with tears, when we rock them in our now spaces and breathe life into them by sharing them aloud. These communions spark inspirations that may create just the space needed for what has been buried to finally be born.
I don’t know who needs this as much as I do, but I implore you to feel for what has been buried within and find yourself a SUN to share it with. We live under the light of one every day, if you have not a sister with whom to sun your dreams. But the now moment is yearning to birth miracles THROUGH US, AS US, in the most remarkable ways.
Perhaps it is time for us to LET. IT. HAPPEN.
A COMMUNAL PRAYER FOR SUNNING OUR DREAMS
ATI,
May we call forth courage to give light to our abandoned dreams for they are often the truest ones. May we turn our faces and unzip our hearts in loving witnessing of some sacred sun while summoning the seemingly-impossible from the fertile field of infinite possibility that is ever-present. May we remember that this is the work of faith. And that faith is always richly rewarded, even if in unexpected, unimaginable ways. Gift us eyes to see the signs—that is YOUR signature—that our faith is felt, for these signs fuel our faith further. We need them, so be luxurious in YOUR gifting. Thank YOU for being a Divine YES, and for bringing us to the altar of surrender where what YOU pressed into us we now pronounce to YOU in full faith that it is done. Let us live in the fullness of joy as though it already is because that is the truth.
In the name of the Nameless,
Amen. Ameen. Ashé. Let it be.
It’s ALL holy. It’s ALL a miracle. It’s ALL YOU.
A dream which may be brought about through strategy. For example, getting married is an achievement dream but having a fulfilling relationship is a gift dream.
Happiness in Portuguese
Thank you for the richness of this knowing and the beauty of this sharing in this space. There are so many cells in my body that know that every word here is true/ truth/ gospel. I have witnessed again and again the power of my own manifestation of heart dreams and cell deep knowledge of the life I deserve and how it will unfold. All of your heart desires are on their way. Asking is how we let the light know that we have made space and have time for all we desire. Space and time are divine. We are and have enough.
